When you go shopping in Zurich, there are three different areas that you can
choose from: the Bahnhofstrasse area, the Niederdorf area, and the Lowenstrasse
area. The Bahnhofstrasse is the area from the main train station up to the lake.
If you are looking for a luxurious shopping experience, the Bahnhofstrasse area
is the best place for you. It is known to be accommodating the most expensive
and exclusive shopping stores not only in Zurich but all around the world.
Luxurious gifts and souvenirs such as diamond rings, fancy coats, and more are
all found in this area. Designer clothing and Swatch stores are also located
within this region. Two of the most popular shops in this area are Jelmoli and
Globus. Jelmoli is a department store and famous for its food halls and other
great shops. Globus is also a department store and is a favorite destination by
many when in Bahnhofstrasse.
The second shopping area in Zurich is the Niederdorf area. This is the area where the old Zurich is found. It is the oldest area in town which is found over the lake when you are in the train station. The Niederdorf area is catering to fast food companies in Zurich. Other shops available in this area are clothing stores which are mostly preferred by the younger generation. The third area to go shopping in Zurich is the Lowenstrasse area. This area runs from the west part of Bahnhofstrasse to the main train station. The Lowenstrasse area has a chain of many department stores and lower ranged shops.
If you are looking for particular items, you can choose a shop that sells these
particular products. For a variety of shopping items, you can visit the
department stores in Zurich. Other department stores in Zurich are Coop and
Manor. If you are shopping for groceries and other food needs, you can visit the
supermarkets in Zurich such as Migros and Coop. This chain of supermarkets is
selling products with affordable prices. There are particular shops in Zurich
that you can visit that particularly sells one type of product only such as
chocolate shops, fashion stores, book stores, furniture, jewelries, kid’s stores,
and others.
A typical shopping hour in Zurich is from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. But for some shops,
they can extend their shopping hours up to 8 pm on weekdays; however shorten it
to 5 pm on Saturdays. Usually, shopping centers are not allowed to open on
Sundays but because of special laws, some shopping centers are now open to
public during Sundays.
